Kear Porttris
Kear Porttris is a Métis-Chinese professional, Indigenous advisor, civil engineer, and owner/operator of Porttris Consulting Group. He specializes in bridging technical and non-technical environments, supporting meaningful Indigenous engagement, and aligning project requirements with the priorities, values, and practical realities of Indigenous communities. His work focuses on bringing people, industry, governments, and communities together t o build relationships, resolve complex issues, and move projects forward in a transparent and respectful way.
Kear has extensive experience working with Indigenous communities across Canada, with particular depth in British Columbia and Vancouver Island. As owner/operator of Porttris Consulting Group, he provides guidance, strategic direction, facilitation, policy development, procurement support, and relationship advice for organizations working within Indigenous territories and business environments. He has also served as Director of Infrastructure with the First Nations Housing and Infrastructure Council, engaging First Nations communities, developing grant applications, working with leadership and staff, and supporting projects connected to the transfer of funding and responsibilities from Indigenous Services Canada.
His project experience includes Indigenous engagement and partnership development for major infrastructure, health, housing, municipal, environmental, and institutional projects. He has advised on Indigenous engagement plans, developed partnership agreements and communications plans, facilitated engagement meetings, supported Indigenous inclusion and procurement, and helped organizations navigate complex proposal and project requirements. His background includes work with Island Health, Pomerleau, Engineers and Geoscientists BC, the City of Colwood, Camosun College, BC Housing, the Capital Regional District, QM Environmental, and Indigenous economic development initiatives
